Vaccinations
Hays County Health Department serves as a safety net for those needing vaccines in Hays County.
HCHD offers immunizations for children. A child may qualify for free vaccines through the Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) program if they are:
18 years old or younger AND one or more of the following applies:
• Uninsured
• Underinsured
• Enrolled in Medicaid or CHIP
• American Indian or Alaska Native
HCHD also offers vaccines for adults 19 years and older who do not have health insurance through the Adult Safety Net (ASN) program.

What vaccines are available?
For children:

Only adults with no form of health insurance are eligible. Insured adults should contact their primary care provider or a local pharmacy for vaccinations.

Childhood Vaccinations Information
The Texas Vaccines for Children (TVFC) program provides low-cost or free vaccines to eligible children from birth through 18 years of age who meet one or more of the following criteria:
- Eligible for participation in the Medicaid program
- Enrolled in the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP)1
- American Indian or Alaska Native (As defined by 25 U.S.C. 1603)
- Uninsured Children: Children who do not have health insurance
- Underinsured: Children who have commercial (private) health insurance, but
- Coverage does not include vaccines; or
- Covers only selected vaccines (TVFC-eligible for non-covered vaccines only); or
- Health insurance covers all vaccines, but the plan has a fixed dollar limit or cap on the amount that it will cover for vaccines (TVFC-eligible once fixed dollar amount or cap is reached).
Though children whose insurance pays for vaccines do not qualify for TVFC vaccine, CHIP children do qualify by special arrangement.
Underinsured children must be seen by a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), Rural Health Clinic (RHC), or deputized clinic.
Requirements for School-Aged Children:
School-age children are required to have certain vaccinations before school enrollment. Visit the Center of Disease Control web site to view requirements or call 1-800-252-9152. The requirements apply to students in all public and private primary and secondary schools in Texas.

Travel Vaccinations
HCHD does not provide vaccinations required for overseas travel. Contact your primary care provider or a local travel clinic.
How Do I Get a Copy of My Vaccine Records
To request a vaccination record for yourself or your child (only applies to vaccines given in Texas), fill out the Authorization to Release ImmTrac2 History form. Those who are 18 years old or older must sign an ImmTrac2 Adult Consent Form (EF11-13366). To maintain immunization records in the registry, they must submit the form by their 26th birthday.
- To request a copy of a vaccine record, download the Authorization to Release ImmTrac2 History form.
- Complete the form.
- Send completed form to the DSHS Immunization Unit:
