Karst Canyon Preserve
Welcome to Karst Canyon Preserve!
Karst Canyon Preserve is named for the unique landscape it protects. Karst landscapes are areas where the limestone bedrock is highly soluble, meaning it dissolves in water. This dissolving bedrock leads to the formation of karst features such as sinkholes, caves, and springs. In central Texas, sinkholes and caves are critical for groundwater recharge of the Trinity Aquifer. Karst Canyon Preserve exists, in part, to protect both the quantity and quality of water entering these recharge features.
Karst Canyon Preserve is also home to the Wimberley Bat Cave and a portion of Dry Cypress Creek.
You're invited to the ribbon-cutting ceremony!
Hays County will celebrate the official opening of Karst Canyon Preserve with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. on March 27. Participants will park at Parking Lot A at Jacob’s Well Natural Area, located at 1699 Mt. Sharp Road, Wimberley, Texas 78676. From there, attendees may choose to take a short 0.8-mile round-trip hike to the ceremony site or ride with park staff by golf cart.
We welcome you to join us for an optional 2-mile Nature Hike which will take place immediately after the ceremony.
